Happy Spring Festival! Wishing you and your family a wonderful celebration filled with joy, prosperity, and good fortune in the year ahead.
Chinese New Year, also called the Spring Festival, is the primary traditional festival in China. It signifies the start of the lunar new year and is observed on the first day of the Chinese lunar calendar.
It’s a period to pay homage to ancestors, ward off malevolent spirits, and usher in good fortune for the upcoming year. Lighting firecrackers and creating loud noises to drive away the malevolent creature Nian is customary. Most notably, the eldest and most senior members receive visits, strengthening family ties. Elders distribute red envelopes containing money called ya sui qian, serving as a form of blessing to counter aging and the trials of the approaching year, given to younger family members, primarily children and teenagers.
